If you missed last night’s meeting we had a good discussion about MAX, train noise and bike lanes. Today there are a couple of comments regarding our discussion that bear… more discussion!
Trevor writes in comments:
Some of us are struggling, yet we still hope the millions we spend on million dollar bridges will trickle down to us. Let’s stop painting bicycling lanes all over Portland. We only need two modest bicycle boulevards (Clinton & 16th), the intersection of which will become the center of an organic bicycle revolution.
Trevor raises a really great point; We have big fish to fry so why and where do we put our efforts? The answer, in short form, is where there is either opportunity or immediate need.
One of the reasons we spend so much time working with transportation is because there is a lot of money for local improvement in that sector. There are tremendous opportunities to make Brooklyn a more livable neighborhood when we make it safer to walk and bike here. That makes it a better place for neighbors and business. File that under “Opportunity”.
In the “Immediate Need” category we see things like development issues where timing and need are completely out of our control. The Brooklyn Yards/Rose Manor redevelopment is a great example of a critical issue that takes a lot of time for the Board to work on.
Lance Lindahl, the BAC Chair added that, where we can, we do our best to help with issues ranging from schools to homelessness. The truth is that we can always do more, but to accomplish what we want to (and can) we need you.
We want to hear more from you. A great thanks to Trevor for chiming in and please continue to do so. This website is part of the conversation we want taking place in the neighborhood so log in and write on! The change begins here, on this website, at our meetings and BAC events. We’re looking forward to hearing from and working with you. Take care.
