Celebrate National Night Out on August the 4th

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to: Heighten community awareness of crime and drug prevention; · Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs; · Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; · Send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back · Promote emergency preparedness awareness.

· To learn more about hosting a party or to get involved with an event in your area, go to the Office of Neighborhood Involvement Crime Prevention webpage at www.portlandonline.com/oni/cp and click on the link for National Night Out or call Kelly Ball at 503/823-9666.

To make your party an official Portland National Night Out event, register online at http://www.portlandonline.com/oni/nno. As an official party, fees for various required permits and variances are waived. Detailed information can be found on the website. In addition to the steps necessary to hold a National Night Out event, ideas for parties, sample letters, etc. are also available online. Parties held between July 28 – August 9, 2009, can be registered as official parties.
