The Brooklyn Community Garden is located in the northern edge of the Brooklyn Neighborhood in Portland, Oregon. The BCG has 34 garden plots, native plants and community berry bushes. Garden-related workshops and events are offered throughout the gardening season. The Garden is located at the corner of SE Franklin and SE McLoughlin/ 99E. Up a short hill from the street, the site levels out and is sunny and open. There are great views of downtown Portland, the Ross Island Bridge, the new Transit Bridge, and the Willamette River. In addition to providing the space and resources for families to grow healthy food, the Brooklyn Community Garden hosts educational workshops for adults and children on a wide range of garden-related topics.
The community garden is managed under the auspices of the Brooklyn Action Corps Neighborhood Association (BAC). The property is owned by the Oregon Department of Transportation which has granted a permit to the BAC for the Garden. In the spring of 2012 we received a generous grant from the East Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District to develop the BCG. The garden opened to plot holders in August, 2012.
All plots are currently occupied, but if you’d like to join the waiting list, or have any questions, please send us an email.
Hi! My name is Jim and I live on 7th and Kelly. Just went and visited the community garden and was interested in a plot for this year 2022. Very interested and only grow organics. Is the waiting list super long? Is there even a possibility to get a plot this year? Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks Jim
