Brooklyn Community Garden Approved by ODOT!

Dear Neighbors–Great News!

The Oregon Dept of Transportation (ODOT) has approved our proposal to build a community garden at their lot located just south of SE Franklin Street at SE McLoughlin Boulevard. We’re planning on installing raised beds, a fence, stairs, terraces, a shed, a sign, and water spigots with guidance from ODOT’s landscape department. The Brooklyn Neighborhood will maintain the site.

Thanks to BAC board member Jacob Heil for spearheading this project.  Thanks also to the BAC, Tim O’Neil and others at Southeast Uplift, Rita at THE BEE Newspaper, Ben Waldron at Neighborhood Notes, Marie Phillippi at the Brooklyn Newsletter, all the interested and supportive folks, and of course, the wonderful volunteers on the planning committee that were willing to form before we knew this could be a reality.

NOW THE WORK STARTS…

Resources are what we can viably seek now. From donations of materials, to money, grant applications, and we are now able to advertise to our neighborhood and collect as many families and individuals as are interested in partaking in the fun.

Please do what you can as community members to help us acquire materials, find volunteers, and bring in organizations and businesses who are willing to help with this project. We added a Community Garden page on this website. In the meantime, Email Jacob Heil with any questions or to get involved.

Thanks everyone for helping us make this happen in time for planting season!
