Dear Brooklyn Community and Beyond,
Friends of Brooklyn Park is the non-profit organization that administers and funds the free Summer Youth Program at Brooklyn Park (the giant slip’n slide and more). This program has been a part of Brooklyn for nearly 50 years. Friends of Brooklyn Park (FOBP) took over the administration of the program in 2017 when Portland Parks and Recreation cut the funding. This program has remained free to all youth and families because of the generosity of the community, Portland Parks Foundation, SE Uplift, and local businesses. We thank you for your past support and need your help with the board to continue into the future.
The board of FOBP is composed of volunteers from the Brooklyn Community. We used to have a crew of 4; and are now down to the bare minimum of 3 board members. Before our numbers decreased we needed more people involved, and now more than ever we need your help with the work of the board. We cannot continue to operate in our current state which means that the Youth Program would no longer continue to run.
The board meets monthly Sept-Dec. We meet more regularly or in smaller groups Jan-Mar for the Winter Gala. Then monthly again Apr-Jun. We are looking for people interested in the following positions: Secretary, Treasurer, Volunteer Coordinator, Fundraiser Chair, Marketing/Social Media, Community Outreach Chair.
We will have a virtual information meeting on Tuesday, January 23 at 7-8pm, video call link: https://meet.google.com/ita-smje-hiq. We will also have an in-person information meeting on Sunday, January 28 at 2-3:30pm at Rose City Coffee. You can find information about our org and program at www.friendsofbrooklynpark.org.
Sincerely,
Friends of Brooklyn Park Board
Thank you,
